Infusion Care: your easy connection
What is subcutaneous infusion?
;
Subcutaneous infusion is a method of delivering medication continuously into the fatty tissue just beneath the skin, where it is absorbed by the body. This approach allows fluid medications to be administered steadily over an extended period, often anywhere from several hours to up to 72 hours, depending on the therapy and medication used.
To perform a subcutaneous infusion, a small needle is inserted through the skin, after which either the needle itself or a soft, flexible catheter remains in place within the tissue. The medication is then delivered by an external pump that connects to the insertion site via an infusion set.
Together, the infusion set and pump form a complete system designed to provide consistent, controlled dosing for a wide range of therapies.
Convatec infusion care offers a range of infusion sets, designed for different therapies and user preferences, with options for cannula type, tubing length, and insertion method.
